carolina sky
lyrics and music by Nathan Davis
Say you're having trouble sleeping;
Guess you need some color in your dreams.
I found you on a bar stool crying,
Looking like the liquor crowned you queen.
Even through your smeared mascara,
You're still a masterpiece to me;
I never told you how I felt that night,
I'm just the type to leave it be.
And now I'm looking into darkness;
And everything around me makes no sense.
I feel like hating everyone but you;
You've always come to my defense.
And people see a part of me
That never needs to have anyone around;
And up until the day I found you,
I found peace in shadows, sweat and sound.
So forget about your troubles, and forget about the lies:
The only thing that matters now
Is you and me and this Carolina sky.
Trouble comes in threes, they say;
Let 'em come, I'm not afraid to stand.
As long as I've got you beside me, pride inside
And a guitar in my hand.
Cause I've got something burning in me,
Something this old world can't take away;
And I'll be playing long after I'm gone,
Well, I'll be singing from my grave.
So forget about your troubles, and forget about the lies:
The only thing that matters now
Is you and me and this Carolina sky.
Say the only thing that matters now is you and me and this Carolina...

I really like this has a certain Dylan flavour to it. I love the chord pattern especially in the verse, it's so simple yet so nice to listen to on the ear. The vocals are superb, so strong and certain about what you're singing. Production is simple and sweet and never gets too much.
